Funny thing:

The tripod has been demolished. About three days after I wrote that. Seriously, it majorly sucked when all of that went down but things are fine now.

Well not entirely but there is so much going on right now, my brain feels like it's going to explode. So I'm going to bed, but hopefully I will write more later.... i.e. tomorrow.

First Week.

Monday, Wednesday, Friday I have Modern East Asian history and American Non-Fiction Literature. My history class sucks because I don't like Asians or history, but my teacher is really into the class so I think it'll get better. My Lit class is cool; I think the books we are reading will be interesting which is a plus. Tuesday and Thursday I have Art Masterpieces and Geology. Art is basically 85 minutes of lecture- FUN!!! (not) and my Geology teacher has pit stains. Yeah, distracting, I know.

The tripod is basically my hope for this semester. The tripod- which is Jon, Angie, and myself seem to hang out almost 24 / 7, and we have a lot of fun. Everyone who wants to be as cool as us (sarcasm flag) flows in and out, but we're the core. Eleni, Gretchen, Dan, Peru, Wilbur, and Michelle (my roommate) have all hung out with us too. There are a lot of snotty people at this school, but thankfully I've seem to found some of the really down to earth ones.

Michelle was gone again this weekend so my room became the party room. Friday night we just hung out and played Apples to Apples and Kings Cup. Saturday we played Settlers of Catan, Apples to Apple (again) and then Angie and Eleni had a dance party. It was pretty entertaining to say the least.

But so far so good, I guess. I'm actually going to head to bed now since I have class at 8am. Just wanted to update whoever was reading this, and give a general overview of my life here. :)

First Weekend 2.0

FRIDAY: Woke up late, typical. Mom and I made it to UP about an hour later than we wanted to, but we went straight to fin aid because there was an issue with my account. Got that fixed. Went up to the admissions counselor who we talked with upon my acceptance into UP. While I was up there, I got a $3000 scholarship that will stay with me for the next three years while I'm here. PLUS PLUS PLUS. Seriously, it helped a lot. Then I checked into my dorm, saw that my roommate had already moved in yet she was nowhere to be found. She had gone back up to Gig Harbor for the weekend, so I had a single for a few days. Got unpacked and mostly moved in. Headed to lunch then convocation- which was long and boring and one of the Father's said the weirdest prayer ever. It was like a speech prayer, he didn't bow his hands, close his eyes, or fold his hands. Just prayed into the mic and let me tell you, uber weird. After convocation I was supposed to meet my home base leader outside the Chiles Center; she was to have a sign that read TRANS CAS and we were supposed to go meet her and head to our assigned classroom. However, that sign was nowhere to be found. As I'm asking a staff person to help, a tall chick came over and was like, "The transfers leader forgot her sign so she's already in the classroom." Oh, well way to be prepared leader. So this chick, Angie walked over to our class together. After we went through all of the required questions (name, hometown, major, why UP, what dorm are you in, are you liking it so far?) were answered we just walked in silence to our classroom. As we entered, the leader was already giving out all of the information to a handful of students that were sitting. She says, "Oh hey, maybe I should have waited a few minutes before I started!" Yeah, ya think? This meeting was basically a waste of our time- we learned to not park in Waldschmidt Hall, which, hello, I already knew because it's for admissions guests and staff only. Seriously, I was not her biggest fan. But we got out early and Angie and I went and walked to the Pilot House to buy a lanyard for our ID's and room keys. Then Angie saw that some guys were playing ultimate Frisbee on one of the quads, so she joined them and I held onto her bag. Which was okay by me, seeing as the guys were playing shirts/skins and they were pretty cute. After exchanging numbers, we split after that and I went back to my dorm. The rest of the evening was pretty tame, we had dinner then headed home to grab some stuff I left and to go shopping for some school essentials. When I got back to campus I was absolutely exhausted and I went straight to bed only to be greeted with an adrenaline rush. Thankfully though, there was something going on outside my window and I of course, had to check it out. So we're the only girls dorm right? Well, one of the all guys dorms is next to us and the two of us, Mehling and Villa Maria have some sort of "relationship". And to start the year off right, the Mehling girls were singing to Villa, trying to coax them out of their dorm. It was actually quite hilarious too, Villa walking out of their dorm and singing Brian McKnight's Back At One to all these freshman girls. Speaking of freshman girls, I met one named Therese and she lives next door to me. The two of us, and then this guy from Villa all went to Fred Meyer after the sing a long, and that was pretty fun too. I finally got back home around 1:30am and went to sleep about an hour later. I think that was the everything that happened the first day. And now I'm tired of writing, so let's just quickly hit up the highlights of the weekend.

Saturday: Met up with Angie, went to some of the meetings. Hung out with the mom and dad.
Sunday: Went home for church, spent 3 hours alone in my dorm room, finally went to public safety and got a parking permit, bought some Smirnoff Mango Ice. When I got back home (to the dorm) my roommate was there and finally met her. Name is Michelle, and she's super nice. We've got a lot in common and so far it's been really fun living with her. Sissy came over and we went and had dinner in the Cove. Angie was there with Jon and I guess that's where the tripod originated. More on that later. Went to bed early because I had an 8am class.

So yeah, I really like this school, my dorm mate, my friends, and in general, the experience. :)

Jackie and I did something crazy today.

I pierced my nose!!!! We decided to get pierced last week when we were at Captain's Bar downtown Vancouver. We were going to go that day, but it was late and Jackie still had a week left at work. So we went today, completely sober and completely stoked. It was such an adreneline rush! It did hurt when the needle went it, and my eyes did water. I didn't cry! But it is fairly typical for your eyes to water when piercing something that close. We went to Big Al's afterwards and I had a giant margarita, which definitely helped to numb the pain. But then after I drank my 24 oz marg, Jackie finally decided on what she wanted and we went to get it done.
Isn't it so cool?!? Jackie is so much more BA than I am :)
Since this is my UP blog, I'll let you know that I talked with my roommate today. Just through Facebook, but I'm really excited for school and orientation and everything. And yes, I know that was a run on sentence but I like saying "and" so deal with it.
It's definitely sleep time though. I've gone through a lot of emotions this weekend and I am exhausted.

Can I just vent for a minute?

Mmkay thanks.

I have a 2.896. I need a 3.0 to get a $3000 scholarship for UP. I am taking two classes this summer to try and up my GPA and I just realized that even if I do get A's in both classes it won't be enough to raise it high enough.

FML.

It's about time for a change of pace.

I found this cute little picture in one of my folders on my laptop.

And I know that it is supposed to relate to whatever unrequited crush you have this week, but I found it fitting for this transition period in my life. In exactly 10 days, I move into my dorm at UP and start my life as a college student. Although I went to community college for two years, it's not the same experience. At UP, I'll be living in the dorms with 300 other girls, attending classes in huge classrooms and lecture halls, meeting with an advisor who actually knows what he is doing, watching first class athletes win big for our school, and being on my own for the first time. And even though I am crazy excited, I am also really scared. Living by myself, in a big city, and having my closest friends 35 minutes away, it's pretty daunting.

I started this blog because I want to be able to document my experience. I know that it will be challenging at times, but it will also be an incredible time in my life that I don't want to forget. Like the saying goes, "Forget the risk. Take the fall. If it's what you want, it's worth it all." UP is what I want and it's worth whatever challenges I have to overcome in order to succeed there.
